  • Photos: Sea Otter Classic 2009 Final Product Roundup

Someone forgot to tell the nearly 300 companies that showed up at the Sea Otter Classic that it's still 2009, and Interbike isn't until September, because nearly every booth was showing off some kind of 2010 product. Here's a smattering of what we saw.

  • Photos: Sea Otter Classic Pro Downhill

High temperatures turned up the heat on the always-competitive Sea Otter Classic downhill race. The short, but slippery, course meant there was little room for any error if you wanted to be in contention. The top five men were separated by a mere 1.06 seconds. Despite this, Mick Hannah and Greg Minnaar still proved they are the ones to beat. In the women's event, Tracy Mosely took her new Trek ride to the top of the podium, followed by Melissa Buhl.

  • Photos: Sea Otter Classic Dual Slalom

This past Saturday's Sea Otter Slalom race was the first in recent memory to feature mild weather conditions, but that doesn't mean it was an easy race. The dusty, dry and in some places crumbling, course was a big challenge for the racers. Many big names crashed out of the event as their traction evaporated into a cloud of dust. The challenging course favored true bike handlers with lots of steering skill and lighting-fast reflexes, and so it was little surprise to see Sam Hill and Melissa Buhl on the top of the podium by dusk that evening.

The short track XC event at the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, California is always a crowd favorite. The weather was especially cooperative this year with warm temperatures and little wind. The 2008 Sea Otter Pro downhill fell under clear skies on Sunday, April 20, 2008. Some gusty winds threatened, but never delivered the blustery conditions felt on the slalom course one day earlier. A world class field of riders raced most of the morning with competitive men's times hovering around two and a quarter minutes on the notoriously short course.
