In a night of celebration and anticipation, some of mountain biking’s best took the stage in front of a packed house to accept honors in the first-ever Bike Magazine Video Awards and Reader Poll, held on Friday, April 16, in Monterey, California. Cedric Gracia and Mary McConneloug scored top marks in the Reader Poll, New World Disorder IV: Ride the Lightning won Movie of the Year and Darren Berrecloth took home Best Performance, to name a few of the accolades.
Segments from Freeride Entertainment films took home six awards--winning in all but one of categories for which it was nominated. “This is what happens when you put out two good movies in a year, said Freeride Entertainment producer Derek Westerlund about Disorder IV and Red Bull Rampage 2002.
Some established favorites were chosen by Bike magazine readers for the Reader Poll. “It just proves that age doesn’t matter when it comes to the hard stuff, said Brett Tippie, fourth-place winner. Second-place Tinker Juarez echoed that sentiment, saying, “It’s nice that people still know what I’m up to.
