CONTEST: Post Your Photos, Win These Brakes!

Win These Disc Brakes!

By Vernon Felton

A ways back I announced a photo of the month contest here on BIKEMAG.com. Well, I’m here to tell you that somebody actually won that very pricey Ultimate Repair Stand by posting his photos in the community photo gallery.

Wooglin’s very soulful, down-low shot (pictured here) garnered him the goods. His initial response to this stroke of luck? “You guys want a quote from me? Here I've been feeling guilty about using so much of your server space for my crappy photos and now you want to give me a prize for one. I do love irony. Y'all need to keep Reddick off the sauce.”

After receiving the stand and reflecting further on his good fortune, Woog had this to say, “Well, Wow! That's a hell of a work stand. It’s got a tool tray and even a truing stand. More than I was expecting and much better than what I've got. You guys rock.”

Yes, he really said that we “rock”. We don’t mess with the quotes. We take the whole journalism thing seriously. Most of the time anyway.

Now it’s time for yet another photo contest. This time around Magura USA has ponied up a brand new set of Louise Freeride disc brakes: massive rotors front and rear, full hydraulic system, tons of stopping power—the whole kit’n caboodle. For the prize we want to do the Louise Freeride brake For all the details on rotor options and such, go to www.magurausa.com That’s right, you could snag $458 worth of sphincter-puckering braking power by simply posting your photos and observing these few, but important, guidelines. Here they are:

GROUND RULES
Gotta Involve Bikes 1. The photos don’t have to be “X-Treme”, cliff-hucking, action shots, but they should involve cycling in some shape or form. No photos of your naked cousins or brand new basset hound. Stay focused.

No Vertical Shots 2. We like vertical shots as much as the next guy, but for the sake of our homepage-format, keep your photos horizontal. Vertical shots won’t get you jack. Sorry. It’s a formatting thang.

The Right Size 3. We’re posting the finalists’ horizontal images in the following dimensions: 370 pixels wide by 250 pixels tall. You don’t have to scale your photos to those exact dimensions, just remember that your images should be at least 370 pixels wide and at least 250 pixels high. I can’t do crap for you if you send me an image the size of a post stamp.

Post As Many As You Like 4. You can post as many photos as you like. There’s no limit. In fact, you’ll only increase your odds of winning if you post a ton of quality images. Just remember the rule about naked cousins and puppy dogs.

Gotta Be Your Own 5. Sure, this should just be common sense, but we’ve had some douche bags send in other people’s professionally-published images. Don’t be a wanker. Send in your own stuff.

HOW WE PICK THE WINNERS Who’ll actually pick the winning photo? None other than BIKE’s Photo Editor, David Reddick—the guy who’s selected just about every photo that has run in BIKE since Volume 1, Issue #1. Reddick’s a crack photographer with the most discerning eye in the business (never you mind his penchant for mumbling Pink Floyd lyrics at odd moments or his devotion to the music of Steely Dan).

We’ll post the weekly finalists, right here in the “Photo of the Week” spot. At the end of the month, we’ll choose a winner and announce the victor right here in a short article that the winner can then print out and show their friends, mothers and elementary school teachers who said that they’d never amount to anything in life.
