A simple letter, written by a good friend, is sending Matt Russell to hone his freeride chops with Andrew Shandro.
Congrats from all of us at Bike, Manitou, and Andrew Shandro's Summer Gravity Camps to the winning entry to the Free Gravity Camp Giveaway: Matt Russell of Gunnison, Co.
Matt's buddy Mike actually wrote the winning entry which we’ve pasted below. As you read this, Matt will be attending one of Shandro's week-long skills camps. To all who entered, thanks and better luck next year. Here’s that winning letter:
Hello-
This letter is not about me. While I would love to attend Andrew Shandro's freeride camp, my friend and riding partner Matt Russell is more deserving. Matt is 18, and just graduated high school. He has never been to the amazing mountain bike playground that is British Columbia. We work together at a local bike shop, Tomichi Cycles, and Matt has listened patiently whenever one of us returned from a trip to BC, dreaming of the day he would get to go.

Matt is more passionate about riding his bike than anyone I have ever met. On a bright spring day, Matt can barely contain his excitement about going dirt jumping after work. Even in the winter, when the temperature can drop to -30F, Matt will be out cruising town, looking for more urban moves to perfect while the trails are covered with snow.
Along with his passion for riding, Matt has talent unlike anything I've ever seen. From boosting higher than anyone in the dirt jumps, to making 15 footers look small, Matt is the next generation. I fully believe that with a chance to develop these skills further than our local area allows, Matt would rise to the top of the freeriding ranks. His low key demeanor matched with his impeccable bike handling skills would make Matt an excellent ambassador for the sport.
Whistler would be the perfect place for Matt to take it to the next level. The freeriding scene here in Gunnison, Colorado is growing, but it does not even come close to what is occurring in Whistler and the surrounding areas. I am confident that Matt would excel, and take his riding to a level I can only dream of if he was to win this trip to Whistler. Matt is does not know I have sent this in - I thought this would be a great way to help him take his riding a step further, while expressing my appreciation to him for inspiring my riding.
Thank you for your consideration,
Mike Kazimer
