TransRockies Receives a Face Lift--RaceFace Gives You the Chance to Experience it for Free
By Vernon Felton
Let’s say you’ve watched scores of freeride contests come and go lately, and all you’ve been able to manage in response is a yawn. Well, cross-country purists can once again rejoice and be merry because the antithesis of cliff-hucking contests is back. The TransRockies Challenge—seven days of racing that will take 350 competitors a total of 600 kilometres, across the Canadian Rockies—begins this August and they are still accepting teams.
Now in its fourth year, the TransRockies Challenge is receiving a terra firma facelift of sorts. Race organizers have been assaulted with complaints over the years that the race route has been long on suffering and short on singletrack.
While race promoters promise that the event will continue to feature some of the most technical and challenging riding of any race, this year’s route should also be a bit more enjoyable to ride.

“As the TransRockies Challenge enters its fourth year, we wanted to provide a fresh perspective on the race,” said Event Director Aaron McConnell. “The new routing will provide new challenges to past participants and more great singletrack for everyone. It also offers the advantage of being in a town setting for an additional day which means outstanding race services. We are sure that both Sparwood and Elkford will be geared up and ready to offer an authentic Rocky Mountain welcome to the hundreds of riders from all over the world who will come to take on the Challenge.”
Your Chance to Race…For Free
So, let’s say you’re calendar is clear from August 7th to August 13th and you have an insatiable hankering for technical singletrack, way-out-there remote riding, and day-after-day of long, steep rides (that’s 12,000 vertical meters of elevation gain, by the way)… Well, you and a riding partner still have time to win a free TransRockies team entry (worth several thousand dollars). All you have to do is enter RaceFace’s Ultimate X-Country Challenge.
RaceFace is giving two teams of riders, fully-supported entries into the TransRockies Challenge: flights, accommodation, race entries, race support, new riding clothes—a prize worth $10,000 per team. Winning teams will also have their stories told on-line, right here on BIKEMAG.com
SO, how do you win this thing? Winners will be picked by reviewing 90-second (a minute and a half) videos of pairs of interested up-and-coming cross-country racers. Entries will be judged on not only race results and skill, but also their motivation to compete and personality.
Race Face will then post the top ten teams on its website and allow readers to vote. Videos must be received by June 15th. Voting will take place on raceface.com from June 24th to July 1.
