We're giving away $377 worth of Mavic wheels and warranty to one lucky reader. Well, to Daner, to be precise.
Well, the time has come to announce the big winner of the first-ever Mavic Crash and Burn contest, because, yer damn skippy—folks actually do win stuff in these website contests—and in this case, all you needed to do to enter was post a picture of a friend eating shit.
Yes, you post the photo, we laugh at someone else getting hurt, and somebody with a great crash photo walks away with almost $400 worth of free gear…In a sense, everyone’s a winner, right?
Yeah, kinda.

While we all benefited from laughing at other people’s pain, someone is going to walk away from this contest benefiting more than the rest of us. That someone, that extra-lucky bastard, happens to be Daner.
Daner’s shot of a hapless rider sailing through the ether en route to a painful reunion with mother earth just satisfies every time. And that’s saying something because it was actually the first entry we received and by all rights we should have gotten bored with it, but nope, the Board of Review (Ferrentino, Sean at Mavic, and myself) all agreed that Daner’s photo had that extra something special. Well look at it—It’s sorta artsy with the motion blur, and yet it’s distinct enough to impart a nice “every man” feel to it, and the framing is perfect….. Well, done Daner, we’ll be sending you a brand spanking new set of Mavic Deetraks and a two-year MP3 wheelset warranty along with it. That’s a prize worth $377….all for just posting an image in the Photo Post section of the bikemag.com website.
The winning photo. Savor the flavor.
Remember, if you’re gnashing your teeth and lamenting that those wheels should have gone to you because you have a better crash photo just collecting e-dust on your hard drive, we’ll give you another chance of winning something big by posting something small, sometime soon. So stay alert.
Biz's nice endo earns him 2nd place.
Though we loved Daner’s photo, selecting his as the winner wasn’t a simple walk in the park. We received a nice assortment of worthy images. Biz’s shot of the downhiller eating crap came in a close second and ArmyStevo’s ode to the bane of all mountain bikers (a well-publicized, lame crash on an easy trail) came in at third.
The classic, "lame crash on an easy trail" photo. Go ArmyStevo!
For getting 2nd and 3rd place, we’ll be sending these two contestants something small and schwagish. Something along the lines of socks or hats or athletic supporters. Yes, there are definite benefits to snatching first place, but we’ve got a soft spot in our hearts for the noble runner ups.
We also liked the many other entries you posted on this website—all good stuff. Check out the photo post section of the message board to see them all.
Remember—this could be you (not the crashing part, the winning part….so post those photos, Scooter).
That photo is really really old. And I think it is in your public gallery. Make sure the winner is the same guy that posted it in your public photo section a few years ago.
