The 580-gram S-Works model is the Cadillac of Specialized's Roll-X tire line. The series also includes tubeless, wire bead and women's specific Roll-X models. The bead on the S-Works is made of Aramid, a nylon used in bulletproof vests. Specialized claims "Aramid is ideal for tire beads because of its light weight, strength and pliable nature".
The $50 Roll-X is a directional tire and the square, evenly spaced knobs are designed to have low rolling resistance and shed mud quickly. At just 2.0, the narrow-ish S-Works is designed with the ground-bound XC set in mind, so downhillers need not apply. The out-of-bounds crew should check out the beefed-up Enduro line.
