An affordable all-mountain and cross-country group replaces LX and Hone.

Previewed: Shimano's New SLX Group

Cranksets
The SLX group includes two types of HOLLOWTECH II cranksets for different types of riding styles. The first is an all-mountain compact drive crankset with a double chainring 36/22T combination, designed to give more range over the traditional 32/22T setup. It has a reinforced construction with increased axle and spider strength to meet the rigors of all-mountain riding. This crankset includes a “honeycomb” bash guard, a steel pedal thread insert and is claimed to be 100% stronger than the XT crankset.

In addition to the double/bash guard chainset, there will also be a triple SLX crankset for cross-country riding where a larger gear range is required. Using technology from the current generation of XT and XTR chainsets the triple will come with a composite/steel middle chainring that doubles durability over the standard middle ring and improves the shifting performance. It will be available in a chainring combination of 44/32/22T.

FC-M660 / FC-M665 Hollowtech II Crankset

  • Triple (FC-M660) and wide range 36-22 double (FC-M665) with honeycomb bashguard available
  • FC-M660 composite middle chainring increases service life by 100% with smoother shifting
  • Super rigid FC-M665 crankarm is 100% stronger than Deore XT FC-M770

Shimano has developed two different types of front derailleurs specific to each chainset. The double front derailleur is an exclusive design for all-mountain compact drive cranksets. The matching compact design and radius specifically for 36/22T reduces the chance of chain drops considerably and offers more tire, chain and chainstay clearance for compatibility with the majority of full suspension frames on the market today. This front derailleur will also be available in a direct mount version.

A triple front derailleur is also available with angled adjustment screws and an angled clamp band design for ease of installment and setup. This derailleur also offers extra clearance and will be available in Top and Down Swing versions.

FD-M660 / FD-M661 Front Derailleur Series for Triple Crankset

  • FD-M660 top swing front derailleur
  • FD-M660-E bottom bracket mount front derailleur
  • FD-M661 traditional downswing front derailleur
  • FD-M661-D traditional downswing front derailleur with direct mount
  • Wide link design
  • Angled adjustment screws for easy access
  • Improved tire and swingarm / chainstay clearance

FD-M665 / FD-M667 Front Derailleur Series for Double Crankset

  • FD-M665 top swing front derailleur
  • FD-M667 traditional downswing front derailleur
  • Designed specifically for wide ratio double MTB FC
  • Compact cage design
  • Wide link design
  • Matched radius improves shifting and reduces chain drop
  • Wider chain stay angle improves suspension compatibility (65-71 degrees)
  • Improved tire and swingarm / chainstay clearance

The freehub integrates Shimano’s quick engagement technology for faster acceleration and improved reaction in technical terrain. The hub and freehub have been developed with a high quality sealing and they carry cup and cone bearings for easy adjustment and high durability particularly to side loads. In addition to the standard 9mm QR front hub there is also a 20mm through axle version for an extra rigid hub/fork combination and some of the longer travel forks on today’s market.

HB/FH-M665 and HB-M667 Hubs

  • Micro rachet freehub engages at 11.25 degrees for better durability, quick acceleration, and optimal slow speed control
  • High performance sealing mechanism
  • Angular contact bearings
  • HB-M667 provide 20mm through axle specification
  • Center Lock disc mount
