Intense Cycles is filling the gap between its 4-inch Spider FRO and the longer-travel Tracer VP trail bike with the new Spider 2. The new bike will have adjustable rear travel from 4.5- to 5-inches and is designed for riders who want an XC bike they can abuse.
“We designed the bike to be between a full-on trail bike and a race bike,” said Paul Cusick of Intense Cycles. “We had the Spider FRO [For Race Only] and found that people were buying it and putting longer-travel forks on it. The Tracer was designed to be slack and low—you can’t fit a water bottle in the frame. We wanted a bike you could fit a full-size bottle in that won’t be as flexy as a full-on XC race bike.”
The Spider 2’s 5.7-pound frame (with shock) uses traditional tubes, opposed to the heavier monocoque toptube on the Tracer. The bike's geometry leans more toward cross-country set, too, with a headtube angle of 69 or 70 degrees, depending on travel setting. It also has grease ports at the main pivots help keep maintenance to a minimum. The new bike will come in four sizes—small, medium, large and extra-large—and retails at $1,999 for frame and shock.

I'm glad to see Intense is looking out for the average Joe, with the Spider 2, because a lot of us can only afford one bike, I think those of us who like to do an occasional XC-race would like a bike that is somewhere between racing and trailriding, something with a geometry that will let you climb steep hills without having to fight to keep the front wheel on the ground, yet has plenty of forgiveness when you go back downhill, hopefully Santa Cruz, Pivot, and other bike companies will realize this, not all of us want or need 6 inches of travel.

if i will reduce the front shock to 100 mm
do i will gain the tradtion angle off 71 degrees
do the seat angle will be change (hopefully will be 73 degree)
