Aside from the old R.I.C.E. method (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation) there's never really been an answer for boosting healing time after an injury—until now. Using technology developed for astronaut's spacesuits, the Game Ready System is designed to cut recovery time in half.
It all starts with a portable, battery or AC operated 18-pound control unit that contains about a gallon and a half of water and ice. From the control unit, cold water circulates through one of six different hook-and-loop-fastened wraps, varying in size and shape to accommodate nearly every part of the body. A hooded vest is even available to ward off heat exhaustion. Unlike standard ice packs, Game Ready's adjustable 35 to 50-degree temperature range removes the risk frostbite, allowing the system to be worn for much longer, even over night. Along with the circulating cold water, an "intermittent compression" squeezes and releases the muscles increasing blood flow and decreasing swelling.

Launched in June of 2002, the system has already become a regular part of many athletes' lives. According to Game Ready, over 60 professional teams have purchased the machines, ranging from ballet to football. On top of those teams, over 200 individual athletes and 70 universities are healing with it.
Of course his kind of technology doesn't come cheap. A basic Control Unit costs $1995 and wraps range in price from $230 to $750. For serious athletes, the cost is more than worth it. Game Ready could make the difference between sitting out an upcoming race or winning it. There's also a reimbursement program for licensed practitioners, so you can talk your doctor into getting one for your use.
If you frequent the ER or constantly find yourself covered in ACE bandages and ice packs, the Game Ready System is right up your alley. The initial cost isn't cheap, but when you're writhing in pain, recovery is priceless.
