Only other complaints about the bike are trivial, like spec’ing a lightweight XCish Bongrager stem. I swapped it the first day for a stouter King Earl 70mm and then stopped complaining. The Remedy’s stock tires, tubeless Bontrager Jones ACX TLR 2.35s, were a bit squirmy on off camber rock faces, what with their tall, widely spaced knobs. They’d probably be a lot better in loose or muddy conditions, and the stock 28-mm wide Rhythm wheels helped make up the difference.
The three different models all use the same frame, and will retail for $4,730, $3,850, and $2,860, respectively. A frame kit with rear shock and headset will be available for $1,870. Frames and complete bikes are expected to start hitting shop floors Feb. 1, and the initial run is expected to sell out, so if you’re interested in getting dibs visit your local Trek dealer soon.
Initial impressions were good. The test of any suspension design is that you shouldn’t notice it, and riding in Copper Canyon there were plenty of other variables/consequences to pay attention to. We’re getting a bike in ASAP for a full-fledged beat down. Look for it in a future issue of Bike.

The bottom line: Even though Trek has been in the business of making mountain bikes since 1983, and even though it’s the largest supplier of quality bike shop bikes in the country, the Wisconsin bikemaker’s mountain bike program has in years past taken a back seat to to Trek’s own road bike program, and to sexier, seemingly more au-courant designs from elsewhere in the bike biz.
But Lance isn’t racing anymore, and Trek seems to be turning some bona fide engineering attention to the dirt side of things.
The company has been garnering some well-deserved attention from its latest crop of off-road bikes, and it’s probably safe to expect an even bigger-hit version of the ABP design in the not-too-distant future.
