The Variant from Bell Sports is a nice looking helmet designed for all-around mountain biking. It has two-dozen air vents for excellent circulation, a bonded microshell protecting its delicate foam frame and an adjustable headlock to keep it fitting snug. Many helmets on the market today appear road-inspired with a pointy shape, but the Variant’s styling is more rounded. The matte finish on the olive colored model shown here has a decidedly military appeal. Look for a test to come in the future.
