I love this photo. I rember when this was on the cover, I could not stop looking at it. It captures the feeling you get when you flay yourself for no good reason other than because your friends are doing it too - and for some reason, we all talk about what a great time we had despite the pain we inflicted upon ourselves. Bizarre.

The photo of the fall out from the cross race, all mud and effort and dissolution, is one of my all time favorite bike photos. That hollowed out look says so much more to me about why I ride, and race, than all the artfully lit North Shore stunt photos I've ever seen put together.

That photo is why i love the early morning rides when you kick your own ass for a time and then stop to take it in. Sometimes those solo rides can really get your mind right.
