A new course and threats of rain kept the field on their toes till the very end.

The course for the DH track was brand new, and she was a beaut. Steep, ledgy drop-offs on a wide-open ski run gave way to some slick rock and a short peddally section before dropping into the dreaded root and rock filled Vermont woods. A few more peddally sections, interspersed with some ski run traverses, and a lot more roots and rocks made up the lower portion of the course. She was new, but very legit for making a new US DH Champion.
Qualifying was interesting, with a few of the top men playing the Champrey rain game and deliberately qualifying slow in order to get an early final run in before the afternoon’s rainy forecast. It turns out that the rain warnings were a bit premature--it's been 2 hours since the final ended and still no rain.

Women's final: Melissa Buhl. Man, she's having a great race season, isn't she? Worlds 4X Champ, US Dual Slalom champ, and now DH Champ. Her main competition, Kathy Pruit, flatted during her final and was kept off the podium. Speaking of which, the rest of the podium was Marla Streb, Dawn Bourque, Darian Harvey, and Allegra Burch.
Men's final: The rain game turned into a long hot seat for Cody Warren. He was second to run the course and wasn't knocked off the hot seat until the final run by Geritt Beytagh, the fastest qualifier. It was disappointing for Cody; but since Geritt took him down by 2.83 seconds, it was fair and square. Duncan Riffle put in a decent run for third place despite a pretty banged up leg from a morning practice session digger onto some rocks. Cody's teammate on the Decline/Team America Curtis Keene took fourth, and then Ryan Condrashoff. Kyle Strait had a few mistakes on his run and finished a respectable tenth place.
