The 2008 Sea Otter Pro downhill fell under clear skies on Sunday, April 20, 2008. Some gusty winds threatened, but never delivered the blustery conditions felt on the slalom course one day earlier. A world class field of riders raced most of the morning with competitive men's times hovering around two and a quarter minutes on the notoriously short course.
The men's race was dominated by South African Greg Minnaar followed by several Aussies and one Briton. Melissa Buhl had a spectacular day in the women's race besting a competitive field including Fionn Griffiths, Sabrina Jonier and Rachel Atherton. Abigail Hippely was the biggest surprise of the day; she works as a marketing rep for Yeti Cycles out of Santa Cruz, California so it was great to see her up on the podium with such a world-class group of riders.
