Results: Myklak Discusses her Fluidride Cup Win in Oregon

Racers got a taste of some prime Northwest-style DH racing last weekend at the third stop of the Fluidride Cup. The race at Mt. Hood, Oregon, featured relentless technical features that kept riders on their toes.

So Cal ripper J.D. Swanguen took home top honors for Pro-Men, followed by Lars Sternberg, and local shredder Phillip Wiering.

On the women's end, Lisa Myklak took top honors, followed by Katrina Strand, and Joy Mutoli. Bike caught up with Myklak for a post race interview.

How was the track?
The track was awesome! It offered a good variety of terrain, from shale and loose rock at the top, to loamy root corners at the bottom. The track was decently long, but what made it really challenging was that the technicality of it continued to ramp up ’til about two-thrids of the way through. It was easy to wear out and blow off lines; it kept me honest with my mental and physical endurance.

What was the vibe like?
This was my first Fluidride Cup and the experience couldn't have been better. Everything was super chill and coordinated to give the rider the most out of the event. For example, when the pro women were lining up for their race run at the top, there was some concern about the order we should run. The timer just said, "put yourself in the order you feel is best"—everything went that easy. It was a no-fuss event that embodied both a light-hearted and competitive feel. I will definitely continue to support this series.

How about a quick run down of your race run?
I qualified with about a 25-second time gap from second, so my plan was to just keep it smooth and pedal a bit harder. Going into the run I knew I had to stay on my toes for changing terrain conditions up top. Sure enough the lines had gotten rougher and were littered with new shale. The run was a little on the conservative side, but it got the job done.
