New for 2005, the Demo 8 has the same platform as last year's Demo 9 but is 1.5 pounds lighter and has vertical dropouts instead of a rear through axle. The Demo 8 has a slightly lower bottom bracket than most big bikes, due in part to super short 16.7-inch chainstays, part of Specialized's master plan to produce low-to-the-ground bikes that are nimble and quick. The model we saw at the show came with a Fox 40 RC 2 front fork and Manitou Swinger 4-Way rear shock. Want one. www.specialized.com
