Seems not everyone was entirely pleased to see the resurrection of the SOPWAMTOS (Society of People Who Make Their Own Shit) Golden Toidy Awards back at the 2005 Interbike trade show.
The tongue-in-cheek awards were created in the early nineties by handmade bike maker Bruce Gordon, Mark Norstadt of Paragon Machine Works and a few others as a way to poke fun at an industry that, they thought, was beginning to take itself too seriously.
After a brief hiatus, members of SOPWAMTOS revived the awards in 2005, just as Cannondale was emerging from a messy bankruptcy under new owners, an ordeal that earned Cannondale the society’s Golden Fist Award that year for its “Successful Reorganization.”

Understandably, this was one award the folks at Cannnondale weren’t rushing to display in the trophy case. Apparently, they quickly dumped the fist in a trash bin outside their booth, where it was later discovered by a passerby.
Now, that plunderer of misfortune is unloading the award on eBay. It is up for auction until February 9 and the current high bid is just $6.50. Cannondale’s bankruptcy may be long gone, but the fist lives on.
