Who Wants To Get High?

Who Wants To Get High?

The Kona Sleepless In The Saddle 24-hour race returns to Snow Mountain Ranch, just outside Winter Park, Colorado, September 9-10, 2006. If you’ve got an urge to race at over 9,000’ above sea-level, we’ve got eight free entries to give away.

Patrick Adams is a man on a mission. The English race promoter has been putting on a wildly successful 24-hour race in Britain for almost a decade now, and last year brought his brand of event to the US. It was a quiet affair, played out in a spectacular Rocky Mountain setting and involving a heartfelt measure of the usual endurance race dose of pain and suffering as well as an overwhelming “goodvibe” feel. Everyone who rode, or spectated, came away vowing that this event is one of the keepers.

So, here we are again, with a little over a week to go before race-day. BIKE magazine has eight entries to give away – three for solo racers, five for teams. These are worth between $230 and $490 apiece, depending on what category you race. The venue at Snow Mountain Ranch will have food being cooked throughout the race, coffee for the cold wee small hours, light charging, massage therapists on-hand to work out the knots, and a sense of community unlike any other event.

Eight free entries, come and get ‘em! Soloists, you have to do something a little different – last year we had a guy rode 300 miles to the race on his single speed towing all his gear, and another guy who built his bike at the race and vowed to pound a PBR every lap. Teams, your entries will be awarded based upon how many people you can drag along with you to make some noise. Or, how many other teams you can convince at this point to pay up and enter. It’ll be sort of like a pyramid scheme...

Seriously? Let’s see what you’ve got. Check out the race website www.sleeplessinthesaddleusa.com, then write a letter to me here at mike@bikemag.com, and let’s see what kind of fire we can get started.
