It’s been four years since the inception of the first Crankworx Festival in Whistler, British Columbia. What once was another downhill race in Canada has grown into the biggest and baddest gravity fest in the world. Now, in an exciting move, they are growing the festival by adding an additional venue—Crankworx Colorado.
From July 5-7, 2007 the Whistler resort will partner up with the Winter Park resort to produce Crankworx Colorado. The event line-up will include a cross-country race, a downhill event modeled after the notorious Air Downhill, a super-D, big air and a slopestyle competition. John Cowan, one of the most recognizable riders in dirt jumping, will be designing the slopestyle course. He built the Whistler Blackcomb Mountain Bike Park’s Kona Jump Jam, and the world-renowned Hell Track I in San Diego, CA and Hell Track II in Kamloops, BC so he is more than qualified.
The Crankworx slopestyle course is legendary
“Crankworx Colorado is going to produce mind blowing feats of athleticism and an unbelievable spectacle for spectators, whether young, young at heart, hardcore enthusiast or checking out the freeride mountain bike scene for the first time,” said Bob Holme, Winter Park Resort’s Bike Park and Youth Marketing Manager.

Winter Park is 90 miles west of Denver, and therefore easily accessible. Its prices aren’t as inflated as some of the more “Hollywood” resorts in Colorado either. It’s home to over 50 miles of lift-accessible mountain bike trails, Colorado’s longest Alpine Slide, and an abundance of music and food festivals, Winter Park Resort offers the perfect summer escape.
“We are committed to providing the ultimate forum for the evolution of freeride mountain biking and we are stoked to work with Winter Park’s crew to bring Crankworx to Colorado. The freeride mountain bike terrain at Winter Park is gaining more and more recognition in the mountain bike community and Crankworx Colorado will introduce their epic single-track to even more riders,” said Rob McSkimming, VP of Business Development at Whistler Blackcomb.
Crankworx Colorado is presented in partnership with the Winter Park/Fraser Valley Chamber of Commerce and the US Forest Service. Bike magazine is the official media sponsor and we will be offering daily results and photos from the contest right here on www.bikemag.com.
The info site for Crankworx Colorado will be www.crankworxcolorado.com. The site should be live by April 15.
