Point and Shoot
No guidebook explains how to ride from one end of Utah’s 160-mile Wasatch Range to the other. But last summer a group riders spent five days in those mountains, stitching together a singletrack journey that none of them will ever forget. The sky-scraping trails pass high alpine lakes and slice through sprawling, seldom-ridden aspen groves. Delectable descents, mind-blowing scenery, leg-numbing climbs—the Wasatch Traverse delivers it all. By Chris Lesser
Strange Brew
Some things just don’t mix. Oil and water, for example. Or roots and rigid forks. By extension, the psychotically rugged Pisgah National Forest should be the last place one would expect to find fully rigid, fixed-gear mountain bikes (you read that right: fixed-gear mountain bikes). But a couple of frame builders from Asheville, North Carolina, think fat-tire fixies are the perfect way to tackle Pisgah. With their company, Smoke Bikes, they hope to revolutionize the way people ride—and build—bikes. By Graham Averill
