2008 Trip Of The Year: Decadence in the Alps

Contest: Ride the Alps, we’ll pick up the tab

THE GOODS: BIKE magazine and the Portes Du Soleil are teaming up to award one lucky reader (and a friend) a week’s stay in Morzine, France, during next year's Passportes Du Soleil event. If you're not familiar with the weekend-long lift-fed extravaganza, pick up the December issue of Bike for details. Or visit www.passportesdusoleil.com.

The event itself follows a 75-kilometer route through seven Swiss and French villages, via a dozen chairlifts and cable cars. But that's just the appetizer. We’re well aware that the Swiss and French alps are a loooong way to go for just a weekend event, so we're giving away a full week-long experience, complete with lodging, half-board, lift tickets and bike rentals, eclipsing the weekend of June 27-28, 2009.

THE CONTEST: This is the trip of a lifetime, and we want to make sure it goes to a deserving soul. A deserving soul, that is, with a video camera. If you think that means you, compose and edit a video up to three minutes in length. Think Real World submission video. It’s free-form, and can include any kind of persuasive argument you like, including riding footage, a personal plea, the story of how your dog just died and your truck got stolen—you name it.

THE CATCH: BYOPT: Bring Your Own Plane Ticket. You’ve got to get yourselves to Morzine, France, on your own, and from there the event organizers will set you up with the hotel, bikes and lift tickets—including entry to the weekend-long even.

THE DEADLINE: Submissions must be sent in no later than January 15, 2009. Videos no longer than three minutes can be sent in via email in avi or .mov formats to bikemagcontest@gmail.com, or burn it to a DVD and send it to:

Bike Magazine Passport Contest
33046 Calle Aviador
San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675

THE DETAILS: The winning video maker will be contacted by the staff of Bike magazine to arrange trip details no later than February 15, 2009. Submissions will not be returned, and given the expected avalanche of submissions, we might not be able to get back each and every applicant. Submissions will be judged by the staff of Bike magazine. The Grand Prize trip-for-two is non-transferable, and will be issued only in the name of the winner of the video contest. Complete details and rules can be found HERE.

Swiss Cheese and Rice, I would love to take my 1940" technology body to the Alps. I would bring my son with me. I may be old but I have an ECU upgrade.

Two years ago I was 5'8" and 240lbs. Thanks largely due to mountain biking (and a crappy stationary bike for the winter) I'm down to 180lbs. Thsi would be a great trip as a culminatuion of the hard work I have put in. I'd take my wife to reward her for putting up with 240lb me! She kills it on a bike. Thanks, Richard

Anyone who loves singletrack and food owes it to themselves to come to the alps. I am from AZ went to college in Durango but now live in Champery, Switzerland and the years just go by so fast over here. There is an endless supply of lifts and trails and hardly anyone riding it. Come ride with us! Ben
