Tyler Moreland races through rock garden central
Colin Meagher
The final…
The ladies had a mostly clean, fast run, marred only by a Scarlett Hagen’s nasty wreck near the bottom of the track—no word on her condition, but even though she was hauled out on a back board (safety first), she should be fine… But that forced a re-run for Tracey Hannah, Emmeline Ragot, and Celine Gros. They were all on course at the time of the accident.
The shake-out? Sabrina, Mosely, Ragot, Hannah, and Gros. Sabrina was pretty much on fire. Mosely was the closest to taking it from her, but at 2.32 seconds back, her effort wasn’t quite good enough. Next closest was Ragot at 12.45 seconds back and the then Hannah by a whisker (2 hundredths of a second), and Gros at 14.32 back.
The Men were flat out in the final (well, so were the ladies, but the rock garden I camped out in was a beast, and the men were going through there at speeds that made me feel cheap—and made the women simply pale by comparison). Contender after contender rolled into the rock garden, only to flat out. Honda/Ironhorse’s Sven Martin (yes, his bike showed up) had a record-8 flats in his training and racing runs. Unfortunately, during the ride of his life, he flatted the front… But the big kids stayed trouble free for the most part. I mean, everyone made mistakes, but no one had any mechanicals, so it came down to the top qualifiers making the least amount of mistakes… Which was Sam Hill: he took the win and took the World Cup overall by 23 points. Neck and neck race for the overall with Peaty, it looks like… The rest of the podium was Minnaar (who had to relocate his shoulder mid race—else he might have won it) at +1.69 seconds back, then Peaty at +1.72 (shoulda worn that skin suit, Steve), Matti Lehikoinen at +3.42, and then Fabien Barel at +5.06.
sam hill u better be ready lol prolly not but ima try to get up there as hard as i can
