Southridge Park Hosts The First Big National of '07

Over ninety men started the short track XC race making for lots of excitement.
Short Track Cross Country
The short track cross-country event is always a crowd pleaser as the fastest pros blaze laps around the infield for twenty minutes plus three laps on a course slightly over a mile long. The Southridge ST course is special too, as the race organizers decided last year to send racers up part of the mountain-cross track. Not only do the XC boys and girls have to ride at breakneck speed for nearly a half hour but; they have to do it navigating up and over jumps, berms and whoops.
Like the cross-country race a day earlier, Georgia Gould stormed to the front of the pack from the start. The lead group broke away quickly and Gould was soon being chased by teammate Nash, three-time cyclocross National Champion Katie Compton and Alison Sydor who all took turns applying the pressure to Gould who, despite the hard effort she put out on Saturday, held it together riding across the finish line without significant contention.
The men’s event started out with a spectacular charge from Trek rider Ross Schnell who was even doubling up some of the jumps as he rode up the mountain-cross hill. Ryan Trebon quickly reeled him in however and continued on ahead to run away with the race. Big efforts were put in by Todd Wells, Adam Craig, Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski and Max Plaxton to catch the towering Trebon but the fight was futile as the XC National Champion ran away with the race.
