The cut was made: 16 riders total, with the usual suspects in place, less 2—Cam Zink was out with a jammed knee from the previous night’s Big Air comp, and Geoff Gulevich didn’t quite make the cut.
The semis saw none of the top dogs wash out, so it was straight to the Super Finals to decide the winner.
Jamie Goldman’s been the kid to watch all week, and his final run was a beaut! X-up on the initial drop, back flip on the first double, lazy 360 on the second, and a frickin’ backflip on the step up, followed by another huge back flip on the finishing step down. All the moves were smooth and flawless, earning him the hot seat with 2/3 of the field remaining to drop in. Rider after rider was coming down, throwing down, but unable to unseat him. Kyle Strait could not compete with the likes of Jamie but made a huge impact with a sick double-tailwhip over the second double.
Then Cam McCaul dropped in—that kid is sometimes in uncharted territory, and his final run was off the hook! On the opening big drop, Cam upped the ante with a suicide no hander, then an off axis back flip on the first double, lazy 360 with an X-up on the second double, smooth as silk tail-whip on the step up, and then a monster 360 off the final step down—the same move he’d been unable to stick in the big air comp the night before—but this time he stomped the landing to earn the top spot.

Second place was definitely Jamie—his big tricks were eye-popping—man that backflip onto the step up was nuts! 3rd place went to Paul B; had he stuck the flip whip he tried on his final run, he might have edged out Jamie and maybe even have been able to push Cam out of the hot seat, but as it was, his run was just not strong enough—next time Bas!
Awards were handed out to the beats of Bop Skizzum, a fun Nomo fusion jazz band out of Michigan.
Oh yeah, the bar report from my earlier… Just go to the Sushi joint in downtown Winter Park and have Bridget set you up. Don’t even look at the menu—just tell her to bring you food. You can’t go wrong.
