Mob in the Mojave: The New Mob
While most of the country was blanketed in snow, gravity racers from across the country gathered this past weekend to bask in the Mojave sun. The fifth-annual Mob in the Mojave wrapped on Sunday capping off a fabulous weekend of Super-D, Dual Slalom, and Downhill racing.
KHS rider Scott Johnson nabbed yet another Super-D win by decisive nineteen seconds over Sedona's Chewy Aitken. Jackie Harmony pedaled her downhill bike with fury on the long, pedally course to top the women's pro field by nearly thirty seconds.
The main draw of the weekend was obviously the downhill race, big fields and long shuttle lines were a great indication that racing is alive and well here in the good ol' USA even in the dead of winter. Young phenomenon and reigning National MTX champion Mitch Ropelato (Fox) picked up his first professional DH win in a sizable and intimidating field of seasoned vets and other promising youngsters. The podium was rounded out by two other youthful riders, Logan Bingelli (KHS) and Kevin Aiello (GT); all three eked out sub-four minute runs. On the womens side, Melissa Buhl (KHS) and Jackie Harmony were closely matched with Buhl eventually clocking in just seven seconds ahead of Harmony.
Racing returns to Bootleg March 19-21, 2010 for the 3rd annual St. Patty's Day Feast.
