Started a dozen years ago by John Muir and today run by eight current students at the University of California at Santa Cruz, the Bike Coop is a living breathing bike shop, but with a catch. The “core members” who run the thing don’t get paid. They go to school full time, work part time jobs to make ends meet and donate 20 to 30 hours a week to keep the bike shop running. Fellow UCSC student and budding filmmaker Adrian Syben sent us a short film to let us know what they’ve been up to. Check out the Bike Coop Website for more info.
