Another remarkable addition to the weekend was the return of the Mammoth Kamikaze. NORBA dropped the legendary Kamikaze from the schedule in 2001, but due to popular demand, they brought it back. The welcome changes provided action-packed viewing and stress-filled competition. Living legend John Tomac even won the Kamikaze. Here’s a video of the highlights.
Traditionally, U.S. national champions were based on their performance in a season-long series. This year however, competitors fought it out during the winner-take-all national championships at Mammoth Mountain. Although it took four days of racing to get through the numerous categories, when the dust settled the United States had a new crop of champions.

BIKE Magazine’s Monster Park Slopestyle Invitational opened a new chapter in the world of Freeride Mountain biking by pushing the limits of the world’s top athletes and introducing a unique rider-judged competition format. The competition drew a record 6,000 spectators and brought out some of the sport’s premier athletes to compete for the $10,000 prize purse.
